Multilingualism Doctoral School
Training form
Like in case of the other programmes, there are both fee-paying and state-funded trainings in our Doctoral School, however there are only limited places for the latter one. The person who obtains this, receives 140.000.- HUF per month in the first two years of the training and 180.000.- HUF in the second two years. Fee-paying students have to pay 600.000.- HUF per semester, for non-EU sitizens 5000 euro/year .
Training, research topics
PhD students have to accomplish compulsory and optional courses for which they receive 4 or 3 credits, and they start working on their research topic. They also start collecting credits for their publications and conference-attendances. At the end of the 4th semester they take a complex exam, then from the 5th semester on they continue their research, attend conferences and write publications with the support of their supervisor and work on their dissertation.
All PhD students have to obtain 240 credits according to the followings:
- Courses: 60 credits
- Research: 96 credits
- Publications and conferences: 84 credits
Both the optional courses and the research topics can be put into the following three main groups:
- The multilingual individual
- Multilingualism in the society
- Multilingualism through instruction
The training is based on the following modules, and it’s in English.
PhD training timeline - 8 Semesters
- Training and research phase - Semesters 1 to 4
- accomplish common courses (4 credits/each) which are compulsory for every student
- optional courses (3 credits/each) that can be chosen from the modules and that are in harmony with their research topic - Complex exam (at the end of Semester 4)
- requirements: obtaining 96 credits (courses+research work), including all the compulsory subjects - Research and thesis phase - Semesters 5 to 8
- working on the research and the thesis
- collecting publication credits (by writing articles and presenting at conferences) - Pre-degree document / Absolutorium (at the end of Semester 8)
- obtaining all the necessary 240 credits
min. 60 for the courses,
min. 96 for research work,
min. 84 for publications. - Submitting the dissertation for the Mock exam
- Submitting the dissertation for the Public defense

Timing
All the PhD courses are held in blocks by our Professors, which are advertised on weekdays on the basis of our preliminary schedule, which are always sent out at the begining of each semester so that everyone can plan his/her studies even if they have a job. The courses start at 9.00 or 10.00 a.m. on certain days and last until 17.00 p.m. at the latest.
